Vienna Convention Article 36 addresses communication, notification without delay upon request, consular visits and arrangements for legal representation. Applicable bilateral treaties may add or change notification requirements.

Check nationality, the applicable treaty and the detaining authority’s procedure. There is no single four-to-seven-day rule for every country. Ask for an interpreter if needed and make your request clearly.

应结合国籍、适用条约及办案程序核对，不存在适用于所有国家的统一“四至七日”规则。必要时要求翻译，明确表达领事联系请求。
