Foreigners who have made outstanding contributions to China's economic and social development, or who meet other conditions for permanent residence in China, may obtain permanent residence status upon their own application and approval by the Ministry of Public Security.

Measures for the administration of permanent residence of foreigners in China shall be formulated by the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with relevant departments of the State Council.

(Note: Common application channels include: high-level talent programs, investment in China reaching prescribed amounts, holding senior positions for a certain number of years, or marriage to a Chinese citizen for five years with at least nine months of residence in China per year.)

对中国经济社会发展作出突出贡献或者符合其他在中国境内永久居留条件的外国人，经本人申请和公安部批准，取得永久居留资格。

外国人在中国境内永久居留的管理办法，由公安部、外交部会同国务院有关部门规定。
