Foreign nationals working in China must complete the applicable work permit formalities through their employer and hold a valid visa or residence document consistent with the purpose of stay.

Under Article 30 of the Exit and Entry Administration Law of the PRC, a foreign national whose visa states that a residence permit is required after entry must apply to the local exit-entry administration at or above the county level within 30 days after entry.

A work permit and a residence permit are separate procedures. Verify current documents and procedures with the local work-permit authority and exit-entry administration.

外国人在中国境内依法就业，用人单位应当依法为其办理外国人工作许可等手续。外国人还应持与停留事由相符的有效签证或者居留证件。

根据《中华人民共和国出境入境管理法》第三十条，所持签证注明入境后需要办理居留证件的外国人，应当自入境之日起30日内，向拟居留地县级以上地方人民政府公安机关出入境管理机构申请办理外国人居留证件。
